| Reverse description | Central field displays a plain Latin cross with arms of equal length extending nearly to the inner border, rendered in bold relief against a flat field. The cross is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The circumferential Latin legend, introduced by a cross pattée and reading clockwise, identifies the mint as Saint-Quentin and designates the piece as official coinage. The overall design follows the standard Carolingian denier type with a cross reverse as established by the Edict of Pîtres (864). |
