Obverse description Central field features the Carolingian royal monogram composed of interlaced letters, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The monogram is rendered in bold relief in the characteristic Carolingian style, with angular interlocking strokes. A circular legend surrounds the beaded border in the outer field, reading from a cross pattée. The overall composition is typical of Carolingian regal coinage of the late ninth and early tenth centuries.
