| Beschrijving voorzijde | Within a beaded inner circle, a Carolingian royal monogram of Charles II (Karolus) composed of interlaced letters K, A, R, O, L, U, S occupies the central field. The monogram is rendered in bold relief in the characteristic Carolingian style established by the Edict of Pîtres (864). Surrounding the beaded circle, a circular legend in Latin reads the royal titulature, separated by a cross pattée. The outer field between the legend and the coin edge features a series of pellets or stars serving as decorative fillers typical of Carolingian minting practice. |
