| Beschrijving voorzijde | Stylized draped bust of King Charles II (the Bald) facing right in the center of the field, rendered in the crude but expressive Carolingian hammered tradition. The king's portrait displays simplified facial features with a prominent nose and rudimentary drapery at the shoulder. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust reading CARLVS REX, with individual letters separated by a cross at the beginning of the inscription. The flan is irregular in shape, characteristic of hand-struck Carolingian silver coinage of the mid-ninth century. |
