Reverse description Central field displays a plain Latin cross with equal arms, set within a beaded inner circle. The cross, a standard motif on Carolingian imperial deniers, extends nearly to the beaded border and is cleanly rendered in raised relief. A Latin legend surrounds the beaded circle, identifying the mint of Perthes. The flan is irregularly shaped with a scalloped edge characteristic of hammered coinage of the period. The overall execution is consistent with provincial Carolingian mint practice under Charles II.
