| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field features a cross pattée, its arms extending nearly to the inner circle and dividing the field into four quarters. A pellet or small annulet is placed at the centre of the cross. The surrounding legend, disposed in the four quadrants and reading around the cross, identifies the mint church of Reims dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The inscription is preceded by a cross pommée at the commencement of the legend. A beaded border frames the entire reverse, consistent with the workshop style of the Reims mint under Charlemagne. The strike displays characteristic irregularities of eighth-century hammered silver coinage. |
