Reverse description The reverse displays a two-line horizontal inscription divided by a central bar, reading SCI above and SLPI below, referencing Saint Sulpicius, the patron of the issuing abbey at Bourges. Above the central bar, the letters are arranged in a row with a series of pellets forming a border arc at the top of the flan, characteristic of Carolingian ecclesiastical deniers. The lettering is bold and deeply struck, executed in a rough but legible early medieval hand. The overall design is stark and functional, consistent with abbey-issued coinage of the early Carolingian period.
