| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse displays the Carolingian royal monogram, a large interlaced capital letter construction centred in the field and composed of the letters K, A, R, L and V arranged in a cruciform monogram device, with small pellets scattered around the design. A single pellet appears above the monogram at the top of the field, with additional pellets flanking the central cross element. The whole is enclosed within a beaded border. This monogram type is characteristic of the first coinage period of Charlemagne, struck at the Amiens mint and identified by the abbreviated reverse mint signature AMB. |
