Obverse description The field displays the royal name CAROLUS arranged in two lines — CARO above and LVS below — with the letters A and R conjoined in a monogram-like ligature. The inscription is rendered in large, bold capital letters occupying nearly the entire flan, with a central pellet visible between the two lines. The die-engraved lettering is characteristic of early Carolingian epigraphy, bold and slightly irregular due to hand-hammered production. A beaded border encircles the design along the coin's periphery.
