Obverse description Central field bearing an escutcheon charged with a rampant lion to the left, upon which a crozier is superimposed diagonally, referencing the episcopal authority of the issuer. The legend, reading BOVCAR DVS (Burchard), is distributed in three segments around the shield within the coin's periphery, consistent with the irregular hammered fabric typical of 13th-century episcopal deniers.
