Wilbrand of Käfernburg served as Archbishop of Magdeburg from 1235 until his death in 1253, a tenure marked by ongoing friction with the Hohenstaufen imperial court and persistent efforts to consolidate ecclesiastical landholdings east of the Elbe. The bracteate coinage issued under his authority belongs to a minting tradition particular to central and northern Germany, where thin single-sided silver coins dominated local exchange while the heavier double-struck deniers of the west remained largely absent.
Bonh#719 is among the more precisely attributable types in the Käfernburg series, distinguished by die characteristics documented in Bonhoff's corpus.
