The saint is depicted in a hieratic Romanesque style with architectural elements suggesting a throne or fortified seat beneath him. The surrounding legend reads SC-S MAV-RICIVS, identifying the patron saint of Magdeburg. The overall composition is characteristic of high medieval German bracteate coinage, with fine relief detail pressed through a single thin flan. |
