Ottokar II ruled Moravia as margrave before ascending to the Bohemian throne, and the bracket of dates on this issue spans precisely that transitional period — from his assumption of the Bohemian kingship in 1253 through the years when Moravian coinage was still being struck under his direct authority. Bracteates of this region and period are notoriously fragile; the single-sided striking process leaves the thin fabric vulnerable to cracking along the die edges, and surviving examples without flaw are genuinely uncommon.
