Ottokar II came to the Bohemian throne in 1253 following a succession dispute after his father Wenceslaus I's death, and these thin bracteates were struck during the early years of his reign before his monetary policies shifted toward thicker, more substantive coinage. Bracteate production in Bohemia was already in decline by mid-century, making this issue transitional in the strictest sense — the type was abandoned rather than reformed.
Cach 800 is among the more precisely attributed pieces in this series, though die-to-die variation in Bohemian bracteates of this period is considerable enough that no two strikes read identically.
