| Obverse description | Bracteate type depicting Margrave Otto I enthroned facing, shown in full figure seated on a bench-throne, wearing a conical helmet and chain mail hauberk. The ruler holds a sceptre or lance upright in his right hand and a globus cruciger or orb in his left, with stylised architectural elements — turrets or tower motifs — flanking the throne on both sides, evoking the walls of Brandenburg. The circular legend BRANDE BVR GENSIS OT TO runs around the periphery in Latin characters, identifying the issuer as the Margrave of Brandenburg. The design is rendered in the bold, high-relief Romanesque style characteristic of north German bracteates of the late twelfth century. |

| Reverse description | Incuse mirror image of the obverse, as is characteristic of bracteate coinage struck from a single die on a thin flan. The reverse shows the negative impression of the enthroned margrave with flanking towers and the surrounding legend, all in intaglio relief. The thin silver flan exhibits the typical irregular edge and slight distortion inherent to the bracteate manufacturing technique. |
