| Obverse description | A rampant lion passant, facing right, rendered in high relief characteristic of bracteate coinage, depicted beneath a crenellated architectural arch surmounted by a crown with fleur-de-lis finials, all contained within a raised border. The lion, the heraldic symbol of the House of Welf, is shown with pronounced musculature and a stylized mane, with forelegs raised in a striding posture. The architectural frame evokes a fortified gateway or castle facade, consistent with ducal iconographic conventions of the early 13th century. No legend or inscription appears in the field. The design is struck on a thin, uniface silver flan with characteristic bracteate relief showing through on the reverse. |
