Otto das Kind, who in 1235 became the first Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg under a formal imperial grant from Frederick II, issued these thin-flan bracteates during a period when the region's monetary production was dominated by single-sided striking — a technique well established in Saxony and the broader north German sphere by the late twelfth century. The lightness of the flan makes die-struck detail inherently fragile, and the Welter 210b variety is distinguished by specific die characteristics that separate it from closely related Brunswick bracteate issues of the same decades.
