| Beschrijving voorzijde | Single-sided bracteate struck in thin silver, displaying a centrally positioned eagle motif rendered in a schematic, archaic style characteristic of Piast dynastic coinage. The eagle, facing forward with wings spread and displayed, is depicted with a stylized triangular body and crosshatched feather detail on the wings. The central device is surrounded by a beaded inner border, beyond which a pseudo-legend of irregular Latin-style letterforms and decorative elements encircles the field. The legends are largely unintelligible, composed of imitative or pseudo-epigraphic characters consistent with the limited literacy of provincial moneyers of the period. The overall fabric is irregular and planchet edges are ragged, as is typical of hammered bracteate production from the Gniezno or Kalisz mint. |
