The head is enclosed within a plain inner circle, itself surrounded by a broad annular legend band bearing the Latin inscription + DVX MISICO, identifying the issuer as Duke Mieszko. The outermost border consists of a continuous beaded or pellet ring following the irregular flan edge. The die-work is bold and deeply struck, with the high-relief central device typical of single-sided bracteate coinage. The overall composition reflects the rustic but vigorous engraving conventions of the Greater Polish mint workshops under Mieszko III the Old. |
