| Obverse description | Central field features a schematic facing head or mask rendered in bold relief, surrounded by a dense arrangement of pellets forming an arc above and flanking the central motif, characteristic of the Romanesque die-cutting style of twelfth-century Polish bracteates. The head is enclosed within a plain inner circle, itself surrounded by a broad annular legend band bearing the Latin inscription + DVX MISICO, identifying the issuer as Duke Mieszko. The outermost border consists of a continuous beaded or pellet ring following the irregular flan edge. The die-work is bold and deeply struck, with the high-relief central device typical of single-sided bracteate coinage. The overall composition reflects the rustic but vigorous engraving conventions of the Greater Polish mint workshops under Mieszko III the Old. |
