| Beschrijving voorzijde | Facing effigy of a bishop rendered in high relief against a plain field, depicting a bearded visage with strong, stylized facial features characteristic of 14th-century German bracteate coinage. The subject wears a mitre with a prominent central ridge and flanking lappets falling to either side of the head, consistent with the episcopal regalia of the Bishopric of Augsburg. The portrait is executed in a bold, somewhat schematic manner typical of hammered bracteate production, with the raised image occupying the majority of the flan. A beaded or granular border encircles the design at the rim. The coin is struck on a thin, single-sided flan as is standard for bracteate issues of the period. |
