Obverse description Central shield bearing the arms of the Bishopric of Speyer, flanked on either side by a standing figure in episcopal vestments. The design is struck in low relief typical of small hammered bracteate coinage of the period, with the devices occupying the full flan. The initial letter M, referencing Bishop Marquard of Hallstein, appears in the field. The overall composition reflects the characteristic simplified heraldic style of mid-sixteenth century German ecclesiastical minor coinage.
