Aanvullende informatie

John V Flugi of Aspermont held the bishopric of Chur during one of the most turbulent periods in Graubünden's history — the Bündner Wirren, a prolonged civil and confessional conflict entangling Spanish, Austrian, Venetian, and French interests across the Alpine passes the bishopric straddled. That Chur continued issuing billon bracteates of this diminutive weight during his episcopate reflects the persistence of local ecclesiastical monetary authority even as the surrounding territory descended into factional violence and foreign manipulation. The bracteate form itself was already archaic by 1601, a deliberate retention of medieval episcopal coinage tradition in a region resistant to monetary standardization.
