Obverse description Bracteate type struck on a thin, irregularly shaped silver flan. At center, a bipartite shield bearing the vertically divided arms of Pfalz (lion rampant) and Bavaria (lozengy), enclosed within a circle of pellets. The Roman numeral initial 'I' — denoting Count John II — appears prominently above the shield in the upper field. The composition is rendered in a simple, bold heraldic style characteristic of early sixteenth-century German bracteate coinage.
