Additional information

Iso of Wölpe served as Bishop of Verden from 1205 until his death in 1231, a tenure marked by persistent conflict with the Archbishopric of Bremen over jurisdictional boundaries — a quarrel typical of north German ecclesiastical politics in the Staufen period. Bracteates of this region and type were never intended for long circulation; their fragility made them functionally disposable, replaced frequently enough that surviving examples with full, undistorted strikes are genuinely uncommon.

Berger 102 is among the thinner-flan emissions associated with the Verden series.
