Hildbold of Wunstorf served as Archbishop of Bremen from 1258 to 1273, a period defined largely by his conflicts with the city of Bremen itself — tensions between episcopal authority and an increasingly assertive merchant commune that would eventually culminate in Bremen's formal independence generations later.
