Henry VI spent much of his reign between 1190 and 1197 consolidating Hohenstaufen control over both the Empire and the Norman Kingdom of Sicily, leaving German mints operating under varying degrees of imperial supervision. Donauwörth, situated on a critical crossing of the Danube, held strategic value that translated directly into minting activity. Bracteates from this mint are documented in Steinhilber's corpus but survive in small numbers — thin single-sheet silver coinage of this type was notoriously fragile and rarely escaped burial hoards intact.
