背面描述 As a true bracteate, the reverse presents the incuse, mirror-image impression of the obverse design, showing the lion passant and surrounding legend in concave negative relief. The thin silver flan is characteristic of North German bracteate coinage of the 12th century, struck from a single die so that the design penetrates through the planchet. The surface retains an attractive natural silver patina with areas of grey toning.

附加信息

Henry the Lion's tenure as Duke of Saxony and Bavaria made him one of the most powerful princes in the Holy Roman Empire — until Frederick Barbarossa moved against him in 1180, stripping him of both duchies and forcing him into exile in England at the court of his father-in-law, Henry II. Brunswick itself was the one territorial remnant he retained. These bracteates were struck across that long and turbulent reign, and the precise dating of individual dies remains contested; Denicke's sequencing is the most granular attempt to impose order on the series.
