Obverse description Facing bust of the landgrave rendered in low relief at center, depicted in a schematic, stylized manner typical of medieval German bracteate coinage. The effigy is set within a raised inner circle, with four pellets (dots) evenly distributed in the outer field between the inner and outer rims. No legend present. The overall composition is simple and bold, characteristic of Hessian pfennig bracteates of the mid-fourteenth century.
