| Obverse description | Facing bust of the landgrave rendered in low relief at center, depicted in a schematic, stylized manner typical of medieval German bracteate coinage. The overall composition is simple and bold, characteristic of Hessian pfennig bracteates of the mid-fourteenth century. |
