The bishop is depicted frontally, wearing a mitre upon his head, and is vested in episcopal robes. He holds a crozier in each hand, raised to either side of his body, symbolizing his ecclesiastical authority. The figure is enclosed within a plain inner ring, which is in turn surrounded by a broad raised border with a lobed or beaded outer edge typical of South German bracteate coinage of the mid-thirteenth century. |
