Frederick II ("the Gentle") ruled Saxony through one of its most fractious periods, including the Bruderkrieg — the fratricidal war with his brother Wilhelm that split Saxony's territories and administration from 1446 to 1451. Coinage continued through the conflict from both sides, making precise attribution of undated bracteates to specific phases of his reign genuinely difficult. The Krug Mei#825 reference anchors this piece within Meissen mint production, though bracteate dies of this period were frequently reused well past their nominal issue dates.
