| Beschrijving voorzijde | Enthroned facing effigy of Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa, depicted full-length and frontal, seated upon a throne with decorative architectural elements forming an arched base beneath. The emperor holds a sceptre topped with a fleur-de-lis or trefoil finial in his right hand and an orb in his left, dressed in imperial regalia with a beaded crown. The figure is rendered in high relief in the characteristic Romanesque bracteate style, with a beaded inner circle framing the design and a raised rim beyond. The Latin legend FRODERICVS IMPERATOR (variously abbreviated) runs around the periphery within the border of dots. |
