| Obverse description | Stylized facing bust of Conradin, Duke of Swabia, depicted in a highly schematic Romanesque manner within a beaded inner circle. The effigy features a crowned head rendered in low relief, with the crown indicated by a horizontal band surmounted by a central finial. Flanking the bust are symmetrical, intertwining foliate or serpentine scroll motifs that extend into the field, characteristic of Swabian bracteate coinage of the mid-thirteenth century. Below the bust, a schematic body or shield-like element is visible. No legend is present; the design is purely pictorial. |

Conradin — Conrad the Young — held the Duchy of Swabia from the age of two, with these bracteates struck during the decade his guardians and loyalists struggled to maintain Hohenstaufen authority against an increasingly hostile papacy. He was beheaded in Naples in 1268 at sixteen, the last legitimate male of the dynasty, after his failed bid to reclaim Sicily from Charles of Anjou. The Neapolitan crowd reportedly wept at the execution.
