| Obverse description | Facing crowned bust of the ruler rendered in high relief in the bracteate manner, the crown ornately detailed with pellets and arched elements. The facial features are stylized in the Romanesque tradition, with large globular eyes, a broad nose, and a solemn expression. Small pellets or dots flank the neck on either side. The entire design is set within a plain inner circle, itself enclosed by a beaded outer border running along the coin's periphery. |

Conrad IV died in 1254, meaning the upper bound of this dating range covers issues struck under his successors during the Interregnum — a twenty-year period in which no universally recognized emperor held the throne. Ulm's mint was producing bracteates throughout this vacuum, and attributing specific dies to Conrad's actual reign versus the chaotic years following it remains a persistent problem in the series. CC#177.2 represents one attempt to anchor the type, but the attribution carries acknowledged uncertainty.
