| 表面の説明 | Single-sided bracteate struck in low-relief on a thin flan. The central device depicts a stylized Teutonic cross with a small globule or pellet at its base, the arms of the cross terminating within a recessed rectangular or shield-like frame. Two small pellets or bosses flank the lower portion of the cross, lending the composition a heraldic quality consistent with Teutonic Order coinage of the early fourteenth century. The design is rendered in a primitive, angular style characteristic of Prussian bracteate issues of this period. No legend or inscription is present. |

The Teutonic Order began striking its own coinage in Prussia following the conquest of Pomerelia in 1308, asserting financial independence from the Polish and German commercial networks it had long depended upon. These thin, single-sided bracteates were never prestige pieces — they were working money for a crusading state running garrisons, building castles, and paying mercenaries along the Baltic frontier.
The anonymous attribution reflects a deliberate institutional choice: the Order minted in the name of the institution, not any individual Grand Master, a policy that distinguished Teutonic coinage from virtually every contemporary secular issue.
