表面の説明 Within a plain raised border, a bold central cross occupies the field, its four arms of equal length and slightly expanded at the tips. Two small auxiliary crosses are positioned symmetrically in the two lower quadrants flanking the base of the main cross. The design is rendered in low relief typical of bracteate coinage, with no legend or inscription present. The overall composition is stark and heraldic in character, consistent with Teutonic Order ecclesiastical symbolism.

追加情報

The Teutonic Order began striking its own coinage in Prussia following the conquest of the region from the Prussian pagans, asserting financial independence from the scattered local currencies that had previously circulated. These thin, single-sided billon pieces were produced at a weight so reduced that they functioned more as accounting tokens than durable trade coins — a pragmatic response to chronic silver shortages in the Baltic during the early fourteenth century.

The anonymous attribution reflects standard Teutonic minting practice of the period; individual Hochmeisters were not identified on coinage until later in the century.
