Additional information

Issued during the Teutonic Order's consolidation of Prussia following the conquest of Danzig in 1308 — a campaign that permanently alienated the Order from the Polish crown and set the political fault lines that would define the Baltic for the next two centuries. At 0.20 g, these bracteates were among the thinnest and most fragile coins in contemporary circulation, struck on a single die with such force that the design punched entirely through the flan.
