| Obverse description | Bishop Adelhog depicted enthroned facing, wearing mitre and full episcopal vestments, raising his right hand in benediction and holding a crozier in his left hand. Two multi-storied Romanesque towers flank the central figure symmetrically, one to each side, rendered in a stylized architectural manner characteristic of 12th-century German bracteate coinage. A circular legend in Latin runs along the periphery within a beaded border. The design is executed in high relief in the typical thin-flan bracteate technique, lending the composition a bold, shadow-cast appearance. |
