Obverse description Facing veiled bust of an abbess rendered in low relief beneath a rounded beaded arch, flanked on either side by tall, ornately detailed towers with domed and tiered rooftops characteristic of Romanesque ecclesiastical architecture. The central structure above the arch depicts a domed basilica or abbey church with decorative latticed stonework, evoking the monastery of Gandersheim. The entire composition is contained within a beaded inner border and an outer rope-twist or cable border, typical of mid-12th-century north German bracteate coinage. The design is struck in the thin single-sided bracteate tradition, with the image showing through in mirror relief on the reverse.
