Obverse description Rampant lion to left within the field, struck in the bracteate tradition on thin silver planchet. The date is divided by the mintmark letter B below the lion, with the numeral digits flanking the letter, as seen in the example lettering '16B34'. The design is rendered in a crude but characteristic late-medieval hammered style typical of small Brunswick municipal coinage of the mid-seventeenth century.

Reverse description Blank reverse, consistent with the bracteate technique in which the design pressed through from the obverse die leaves only an incuse mirror impression on an essentially uninscribed reverse field.
