| Opis awersu | Single-sided bracteate struck in thin silver sheet, displaying a stylized fleur-de-lis or lily plant motif at center, rendered with a central upright stem surmounted by a trefoil finial and flanked by two symmetrical foliate branches, each terminating in clusters of three pellets. The design is enclosed within a raised inner ring, itself surrounded by a broad outer border of evenly spaced raised beads. Lindau's Benedictine abbey — founded on an island in Lake Constance in the ninth century — held imperial immediacy, answering directly to the emperor rather than any local bishop or secular lord. That status granted the abbesses minting rights, making this bracteate one of the relatively rare examples of female ecclesiastical authority expressed through coin production. The wafer-thin fabric typical of south German bracteates from this period made them notoriously fragile in circulation, and Lake Constance region examples show correspondingly high survival rates in fine condition, suggesting hoarding rather than prolonged use.
