The creature is depicted within a plain inner circle, itself surrounded by a beaded border running along the coin's periphery. The design is characteristic of the bold, stylized Germanic bracteate tradition of the mid-thirteenth century, struck on a thin flan with the image appearing in positive relief on the obverse and as a corresponding incuse impression on the reverse. |
