| Obverse description | A griffin passant to the left rendered in high relief, with wings raised and spread, eagle's head with open beak turned to the right, and leonine hindquarters with clawed feet firmly planted. The creature is depicted within a plain inner circle, itself surrounded by a beaded border running along the coin's periphery. The design is characteristic of the bold, stylized Germanic bracteate tradition of the mid-thirteenth century, struck on a thin flan with the image appearing in positive relief on the obverse and as a corresponding incuse impression on the reverse. |
