Obverse description Central field occupied by a crescent (croissant) upon which rests a stylized nef (ship), the ensemble enclosed within a plain inner circle. The composition is characteristic of the Bordelais monetary tradition, with the nef and crescent serving as the principal device. A Latin legend encircles the design between the inner circle and the irregularly shaped outer rim, reading FRANCISCVS FR REX with the Bordeaux mint mark R and a nef-on-crescent punctuation symbol. The flan is irregular and the strike typical of early sixteenth-century hammered billon coinage.

Reverse description Central field depicts a nef (stylized ship) mounted upon a crescent, closely mirroring the obverse type and reflecting the distinctive iconographic programme of the Bordelais denier under Francis I. The device is enclosed within a plain inner circle, around which runs a Latin legend invoking the divine name. The inscription SIT NOMEN DNI B with a nef-on-crescent device and the letter R appears between the inner circle and the rough, hammered outer edge. The overall style is archaic and consistent with the artisanal hammered technique prevalent in French provincial mints of the early sixteenth century.
