Beschrijving voorzijde Central field dominated by a bold pattée cross enclosed within a raised inner circle, with a pellet ornament positioned in each of the upper quadrants and a ringed annulet at the base of the cross shaft. The surrounding border is decorated with an elaborate arrangement of triangular pellet-tipped wedges and angular motifs forming a continuous decorative band around the circumference, characteristic of the Bohemian hammered denier tradition of the late tenth and early eleventh centuries.

Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse displays a stylised architectural or monogram motif rendered in deeply struck, heavily geometric relief, comprising a prominent triangular gable form at the top above a horizontal band of repeated angular and cross-like elements suggesting a degraded inscription or ornamental frieze. The lower portion features additional angular letter-like forms, highly degenerate and abstract, characteristic of the Přemyslid denier coinage of Boleslaus III where legends became increasingly schematised. The entire design is surrounded by a border of wedge-shaped and triangular ornaments consistent with the obverse border treatment.

Aanvullende informatie

Boleslaus III's reign was one of the most turbulent in early Bohemian history — he blinded his brothers Jaromír and Oldřich to secure his hold on power, then was himself deposed by his cousin Vladivoj in 1002 after allying with the Poles against his own nobility. His brief restoration in 1003 ended when he was captured by Bolesław I of Poland and imprisoned for life. Coins attributed to his reign are among the scarcest of the early Přemyslid series.
