Obverse description Central field features a cross with globules at the terminals, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The cross divides the field into four quarters, each containing pellet or annulet decorations rendered in a crude, early medieval hammered style. A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner beaded border, reading +BOLESLAVS, attributing the coin to Duke Boleslaus I of Bohemia. The overall design reflects the Carolingian-influenced denier type adopted by early Bohemian rulers. The flan is irregular, typical of hand-struck coinage of the tenth century.
