| Obverse description | Central field features a schematic representation of a hand depicted in relief within a beaded inner circle. The hand motif, a symbol of authority and benediction common in early medieval feudal coinage, is rendered in a crude but distinctive style characteristic of 10th–11th century hammered deniers. A cross pattée appears at the top of the inner circle, serving as a punctuation mark between the legend letters. The surrounding Latin legend reads BENARDV, referencing Count Bernard William of Bordeaux, separated by a cross at the start. |
