背面描述 A small, bold Greek-style cross with pattée terminals occupies the central field within a raised inner circle, typical of Ottonian denier coinage. The cross arms are of equal length and slightly splayed at their ends. The Latin legend MVNDBVRVC, referencing the mint place of Mundburg, is distributed around the periphery between the inner circle and the coin's irregular hammered edge.

附加信息

Bernard I ruled Saxony as duke from 973 until his death in 1011, a period when the duchy retained considerable autonomy under the Ottonian emperors. The mundburg deniers issued in his name fall into a category of Saxon episcopal and ducal coinage that Ottonian monetary policy never fully centralized — local lords maintained striking rights that the imperial court tolerated rather than endorsed. Kluge's Karolingische Münzen attribution places this type within a classificatory tradition that traces formal continuity from Carolingian monetary structures even as the political reality had shifted substantially eastward.
