Obverse description Flat field bearing a bold monogram composed of the letters B, E, E, and R arranged in a cruciform pattern, divided by a cross with small crosses or stops flanking the horizontal arms. The monogram reads as an abbreviation of the bishop's name BERENGUER, rendered in a primitive Romanesque lapidary style typical of 11th-century episcopal deniers. The legend is confined within the field without a surrounding circular inscription. The irregular flan, characteristic of hammered coinage of this period, imparts an uneven outline to the piece.
