| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents a multi-line field inscription arranged across the coin's surface, divided by a cross, carrying the Carolingian religious formula and mint attribution in crude Latin capitals. The legend + XPIITIΛNΛ RELCIO MDI C OLΛ proclaims the Christian religion and identifies the Milan mint, with letterforms characteristic of the degraded epigraphic standard of tenth-century Lombard coinage. The flan is irregular with a jagged edge and shows typical die misalignment and weak areas of strike consistent with hand-hammered production. The reverse type follows the established Carolingian formula used at the Milan mint under both Carolingian and post-Carolingian rulers. |
